Mike Beard, the owner of Memphis Garage & Closets, has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Memphis State University. After working his way through college, he began his career in a management role at Federal Express. As time went on, Mike transitioned into a career focusing on Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management. His roles grew from front-line manufacturing supervision to warehouse and materials management, and he eventually progressed to strategic sourcing as the Director of Supply Chain Operations. Mike has worked for Fortune 500-sized companies, including Cummins Engine Company, Emerson Electric, Arrow Electronics, Flowserve Corporation, and, most recently before transitioning to business ownership, ITT Corporations.
Mike had always wanted to own and operate his own company, and that dream was realized when he and his wife, Christy, opened Memphis Garage & Closets in 2017. Focusing on custom closets and providing organized storage solutions for clients was a natural fit for them. Christy was organized to the core like it was in her DNA, and Mike was always improving his own organized areas, particularly his garage and storage spaces.
While still employed, both Mike and Christy worked nights and weekends to learn the ins and outs of the organized storage business. They completed design training with two different closet and garage companies to master their understanding of effective design and to perfect the art of maximizing storage spaces. They learned how to use the leading design software in the industry and still use it to this day. In September 2017, Mike was able to leave the corporate world behind and transitioned to a full-time focus on Memphis Garage & Closets. He has not looked back since.
